  21. today at NEXTSTEP Expo announced Proxima's ProxGate software for
  22. multi-platform electronic mail connectivity. An early release version
  23. is available today, with a planned ship date of July 5 for release 1.0.

  25. ProxGate brings for the first time seamless electronic mail
  26. interoperability between NEXTSTEP and the entire enterprise. Supporting
  27. delivery of multimedia electronic mail between NeXTmail, cc:Mail,
  28. Microsoft Mail, and QuickMail, ProxGate delivers today the most robust
  29. solution available to NEXTSTEP users for communications in a
  30. multi-platform environment.

  32. ProxGate provides the end user with the ability to compose and deliver
  33. electronic mail messages from within NeXTmail and have those messages
  34. delivered with attachments to users of several popular electronic mail
  35. packages. Combined with ProxSync, Proxima's directory synchronization
  36. product, ProxGate can serve as a complete enterprise electronic mail
  37. hub, transparently converting messages between any of the supported
  38. message formats. With ProxGate, mail platform standardization is no
  39. longer an issue, allowing organizations to additionally benefit from
  40. the ability to maintain their investment in existing electronic mail
  41. packages and training.

  51. multiplatform electronic mail interoperability was of paramount
  52. concern. We developed ProxGate to complement NeXTmail and to help
  53. promote NeXTSTEP throughout the enterprise," said Raul Fernandez, CEO

  56. "By focusing on the leading e-mail applications on the market, ProxGate
  57. is addressing point-to-point mail interoperability without the cost or
  58. complexity of a proprietary mail backbone. Given that cc:Mail,
  59. Microsoft Mail and QuickMail combined represent 2/3 of the LAN e-mail
  60. market, Proxima's ProxGate NeXTmail gateway opens up a world of
  61. connectivity to NeXT users," said Francois Koutchouk, product manager
  62. at NeXT.

  64. In addition to message format translation, ProxGate provides extensive
  65. access control and diagnostics to system administrators. Incoming and
  66. outgoing messages can be restricted by user and/or domain name, with
  67. any denied messages logged and copied into a spool directory. A
  68. NEXTSTEP application allows for simplified configuration and
  69. installation of the gateway software, as well as detailed reporting of
  70. message statistics.

  72. ProxSync, a related product scheduled to ship 30 days following
  73. ProxGate's initial release, will provide automatic electronic mail
  74. address directory synchronization between all of ProxGate's supported
  75. environments. ProxSync will be sold as a stand-alone product, and will
  76. be offered at a substantial discount to ProxGate owners.
